The Reforestation, Nurseries, and Genetic Resources Support Act of 2023 (RNGR), part of the Farm Bill cycle, would strengthen the reforestation pipeline by expanding the USDA Forest Service’s capacity to coordinate with land managers across jurisdictions and provide the technical and financial resources to support nurseries and other key roles in the restoration pipeline.

WASHINGTON D.C. – Early this morning, the House Agriculture Committee advanced the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2024 (HR 8467) out of committee, largely along party lines. Significant issues that extend beyond forestry remain to be resolved, but American Forests looks forward to discussions continuing between the chambers and ultimately a process that leads to a bipartisan and bicameral bill. Every five years, the Farm Bill offers a meaningful opportunity to deliver much-needed resources and capacity to meet a diversity of needs across public, private and Tribal forests. American Forests is hopeful that Congress can come together to address reforestation needs, elevate the urban and community forestry program, empower forest landowners and foster all-lands wildfire resilience through a Farm Bill this year.
